Disapointing

I did not really like the attitude of the staff members. Some seemd to go diving still drunk or very tired. The accommodation was to expansive and very noisy. The ppol dirty and extremly salty and full of chlorin at the same time. The masks and snorkel were full of molde and the wetsuit old, dirty and destroyed. I really was disapointed and would not recommend it.

Beware of the supplied rental gear...

I dive a lot, and have been fortunate to have been spoiled with some fantastic scuba adventures in many places around the world. Remembering my first few dives, I understand the excellent ratings given here by a lot of new divers, with their enthusiasm reflected in their bubbly reports. I was just as excited starting out myself, even in the ice cold waters of Canada wrestling with 12 mm wetsuits, lobster gloves, and 30kg weight belts.

When you go to a diving destination and rely on a dive shop, you know you can't expect all that much when you use rental gear. However, it would be nice to have a BC that actually inflated from the tank other than manually by mouth while underwater, tank connections that didn't leak, a depth gauge that wasn't broken, tank fasteners on the BC that actually held the tank from floating away free, fins that fit, a wetsuit that wasn't old and worn out, and weight belts that had buckles that weren't so worn out they didn't come constantly loose slipping to your knees. 30 years of dive experience helped me deal with these issues without panic, but perhaps it won't go as well for a new diver when it happens to them 25m underwater.

After surfacing from a second dive and long underwater swim, we could not see our boat anywhere. We floated on the surface until eventually, we saw our dive boat anchored far away on the horizon, behind another dive boat. On deck, nobody was looking out for us to reposition the pickup closer, so we all had to do a marathon surface swim for our pickup for about 20 minutes, eventually giving me leg cramps, which made me cancel any more diving for that day, and my plans for a night dive.

Once on board, the dive boat had almost no fresh water to rinse yourself off, or your gear with. Either they ran out, didn't have any, or the pump failed. I used some bottled water.

In mid February, although the sea was calm, the water visibility was still poor being only about 7m with a lot of water borne sediment and plankton. Apparently, it should clear up nicely in the spring and summertime.

I had come to Ko Tau and planned to do a week of diving, but after 1 day of gear issues, boat issues, and poor visibility, I realized this wasn't about to change, and had enough and decided to head back to the mainland for other Thai adventures and hopped on the ferry the next day.

At the time, Big Blue was starting the process of moving to their new facility from the old place as the lease was up, so I hope they have taken the opportunity to leave the old worn out gear behind, repair some boat equipment and retrain some skippers, and start fresh.

I thought the divemasters there were awesome, considering what they had to work with.

There seems to be about a hundred dive shops on Ko Tau that teach courses, and take you out diving, so my advice would be don't commit to just one place, just get there, and look around for a good shop with gear you feel comfortable with, for a reasonable price. Most have half price accommodation deals if you dive.

One of my best experiences ever!

We have been welcomed from the owner and he was really professional and friendly and customized our trip in a view minutes cause we didn´t booked anything. We just had three days for a diving course and we arrived really late but he made it happen that we could start immediately with the course and we got lucky and got our own private teacher. Everything seemed to be really organized and the staff is really experienced there. I want to highlight our diving guide Erik. He did a really great job! I highly recommend BIG BLUE DIVING!

Changed my life!

I had the best time diving with Big Blue. I chose to take my open water qualification, but like a lot of students, I got hooked and progressed to do the advanced adventurer course the day after I finished, managing to squeeze 9 dives into the 5 days at the school. Upon arriving, to be offered a welcome drink before I had even committed to anything was a really nice touch, and being provided with free accommodation throughout my learning was a massive help.

My instructor was Tim, he was a great teacher. Patient, helpful and jokey, he never hesitated to answer any questions at all and I felt at ease that nothing was too stupid to ask about. In the evenings, Tim, and the other instructors by the the look of it, were happy to join their classes and socialise, which I feel is extremely welcoming and an experience of going further than the normal requirements of their job role.

my experience diving at Big Blue has made me want to really progress with my diving career, I want to move forward in the near future by getting some more experience on some fun dives, before going back to school and learning how to become a dive master. My eyes have been opened to a potential career path I had never considered before.

Finally, I was recommended to study at Big Blue by 2 people, I will strongly suggest the dive centre to anyone I meet who wants to learn. Thanks Tim and thanks Big Blue!

Everyone can do it

Big blue was awesome I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to dive because I'm scared to put my head under water but our instructor Tim took the extra time with me and I enjoyed it so much that I did the advanced course too. Thanks big blue and thanks Tim for the amazing dive experience and helping me get past my fears

Great dives at BigBlueDiving!

Good diving club, serious and small groups.
Plus the staff was super friendly and the divemasters knew a lot about marine life around the island!

Amazing Experience!

This was my first time in Thailand. My boyfriend and I decided to get open water certified. By word of mouth from friends and fellow travellers we were constantly hearing Big Blues name come up. We were very happy with our decision. This dive resort was also one of the most affordable in Thailand! Our instructor Neil, was very knowledgable and made me feel 100% safe underwater. This was an amazing experience, I cant wait to come back to Big Blue to do my advanced diving! Thank you Big Blue!!

Great diving, horrible accomodation

I did a couple of fun dives and an AOW course. The diving has been just amazing. One of the fun dives has been probably the best of my life, and I have the feeling that I learnt a lot on the course. Equipment is brand new and I could use a 15l bottle free of charge. Safety protocols were strictly followed.

BUT on the other hand accommodation is terrible. We did choose the "expensive" accommodation (1500 baths) and we were woke up the second night at the middle of the night, because our neighbours had bed bugs. For the same price we were on a 4star resort in Phangan. So my recommendation would be to dive with Big Blue, but sleep somewhere else.

Bad equipment, big group

Equipment was bad. Old, worn down and missing bits. Masks and snorkels we're full of mold and really dirty.

We got our open water licence. The group was 6 people. While other diving schools on koh tao just have 2/3 or private lessons for less.
They where also pushing people to buy masks in their shop.

Safety first, pleasant dive masters

I visited Koh Tao in February and dived on five days with Big Blue. Unfortunately, during the trip the visibility under water was atrocious, almost every day. Not the fault of the dive shop. The scale of the dive shop seems almost on an industrial scale, and yet they get most things correct. On some days on the boat there were more than 50 + people - divers, guides, students etc, and yet, I had a great time. They seemed to be able to divide divers appropriately into small groups and I almost received one on one attention. I cannot say enough nice things about all the dive masters that I dived with, the space is just too less. I thoroughly loved the trip. I would love to go back and dive with them again.

Loved every minute!

I spent about a week diving with Big Blue in Feb. and I loved every minute! Did the refresher and advanced courses and then about 15 fun dives. Great dive masters and great atmosphere. I'll be back!
