quick to react and well organised

I can highly recommend this dive school, it is in fact a large school with many customers, but classes are small (3-4 people) and the school is very good to customize for the special needs of each person. I had asked for a quiet room and in fact I got a very nice and quiet room. Instructors Sonia and Alex were both very confident and clear and always in control of any situation. Safety and equipment is taken very seriously, I wasn't able to spot any flaw there. There is clearly a bit of an Anglo-Saxon vibe around the school area, with the usual funny, outward-going characteristics.
What was not specific to the diving school, but rather to the island, just a minor thing, so I mostly say this as a means to further improve the service, was the absence of authentic Thai food. I had the feeling that the food was more like Thai food in Europe. I did not really know what to order for breakfast, the options were like English breakfast or Pad Thai. If that would be manageable, I would encourage the restaurants to go back to offer things like steamed Thai banana with sticky rice in banana leaf, like little pieces of food that one could get before the dive or after, those are easy to prepare and could be sold at 10 Bath/piece. Pretty sure most people would disagree with me though, but since you asked me about my opinion...

Being able to dive across the world.

I did the Open Water course. I have been able to dive in so many places in Australia. It is a Fantastic course, the instructors make it fun and bring you on some amazing dives. It is a good price as well.

Brilliant

Had a great dive with them, and the social hanging out afterwards was just brilliant. They even let me store my huge bag for a couple of days as I couldn't move it on my scooter!

Fun times, Friendly Instructors, Learnt a Lot!!

It was a cracking couple of days with two really knowledgeable and friendly instructors. Ill definitely be doing my level 2 freediving course when i am next in koh Tao. Only one little bit of feedback. Would have loved to have learnt about the Frenzel equalising technique on the first day as I needed it on the second.

Worth every penny!!!

I would highly recommend getting certified at Big Blue Resort on Koh Tao Island. I completed the open-water certification with them and it was amazing. My instructor, Gee, was friendly and made sure that we were safe and comfortable every step of the way. I never felt unsure of my equipment or confused to instructions because of the thoroughness that the instructor brought to the table. The diving was great and we saw some amazing things. I completed 4 dives in just 2 days and want to go back and go deeper. We went to depths of 18 meters and saw things that you can't see while just snorkling. If youre ever snorkling and feel that you always want to go closer and see more, then SCUBA diving is what you need in your life. It certainly changed me and no beach vacation will ever be the same. I hope to go back this summer and get my advanced open-water cert.

ANAZING

Myself and my Girlfriend were recommended Big Blue by a friend and it certainly didn't disappoint! My girlfriend is actually scared of the sea but our instructor, Matt Walters was brilliant and soon put her at ease. We enjoyed it so much we stayed on and completed our Advanced Course...we now have the bug for diving, thanks to Big Blue!

Super diving school

School where learning rhymes with good atmosphere and beautiful seabed. Ophelia our trainer was very nice, she gave us all the basics with lots of practical advice to move like a fish in water. It is bilingual which allowed us to learn technical terms in both languages. Short a school where everything is done to facilitate learning and especially nice people to guide you.

A great school with brilliant instructors

Hi,

I had a fantastic time doing my advanced open water with 'Hightower' at Big Blue. The school was well run, by lovely people with excellent facilities, good food, and fair prices. I couldn't recommend them enough.

My Big Blue Open Water diving course

My son is a diving instructor with Big Blue so we thought it would be better to have someone else teach me.
Steve o was the perfect choice, clear instructions, patient but also firm and fun.
Although a little nerve racking at times I thoroughly enjoyed my Open Water diving experience and felt so proud of myself at 47 to become a qualified scuba diver.

Best Kept Secret for U. S. Divers

The crew and dive masters were professional, the diving venues were great, and the cost was a bargain compared to the Western Hemisphere. I saw very few other U. S. divers and tourists on Koh Tao, and this island, and the Big Blue dive center, are real "gems".

Impatient instructors

Not worth the money! We spent about an hour in the morning talking about safety then sat around for an hour and a half 'lunch break' waiting to go out. We then had a very short time in the afternoon in which to get used to breathing, clearing masks etc before our first dive. Although I got used to breathing underwater very quickly, I struggled to get to grips with some of the other techniques. Instead of being patient, breaking it down and teaching it step by step (and reassuring me), the instructor was getting visibly annoyed and frustrated, leading to me loosing confidence. He then stated that they'd run out of time and I couldn't dive, leaving me on the boat when the others went out. Having spoken to other people, I'd reccomend to look around and find a diving school that teaches fewer people at a time and spends more time teaching you the skills you need so you're actually able to dive!

Great experience

I found the Big Blue Diving course of an high professional level.
I like the fact of combining serious lessons and a friendly atmosphere with other participants and teacher (Scotty).
I stayed at the resort too (Big Blue 2). It was quieter than Big Blue 1 but really relaxing and comfortable.
Highly recommended.

Really good school

I really liked diving with Big Blue! The teaching was great, a lot of different nationalities which makes it an interesting place to be. I had a lot of fun diving and exploring the beautiful underwater life of Thailand! Hope to go back there some time!
