Great dive training, Fun staff

I got my Advanced Certification here, and felt that the staff truly cared about making sure we were well-trained and knew what we were doing. I am confident in the skills that I learned. While we were there, we went on a number of dives with a variety of different guides with unique styles. I appreciated the briefings before each dive. The week we were there, the weather was unusually windy, so the visibility was very poor. The rides to the dive sites were treacherous at times, but it was an adventure. I loved the dive boats. The equipment was in good shape. I would recommend Big Blue to anyone looking to take a diving course or to get in a couple fun dives while on Koh Tao.

Take your Diving Certification with Big Blue Diving at Koh Tao

Big Blue Diving at Koh Tao is a good center with the experienced instructors and a perfect location close to the beach.
Instructor 70537 Kari Lee Wride is an excelent instructor.

Generally a good course however with too high pace. Theory should be separated in time from the practical exercises and open sea dives.

Good and friendly

The guys there are awesome and super frendly. Everything will be explained to the fullest. They take care of everything and you will be in safe hands. The only thing which is not so good is that you can´t take your own cameras into the water :(

Went for 1 course ended up with 4!

I would absolutely recommend Big Blue. The staff was educated, helpful and very easy to talk to (didn't make you feel like an idiot). If I have 1 complaint it would be that I took my Deep Diving course which allows me to go down to 40m but during my dives I never really got close to those depths. With a course/depth like that, you'd think that the instructors would make sure you get as close to 40m as possible to see how you handle it. Not a big deal because everything else was amazing, just more of a heads up for Big Blue.

Great atmosphere and great trainers

Great trainers, always felt well lookef after and they made sure we were doing the right thing. Class sizes quite big, but to be expected of big dive school. Only giving 4 stars as the blonde headed English girl at reception was horrible. We were there for 9 days and she was incredibly rude and we felt like we were bothering her by being there. Nearly didn't do my advanced because of her. My awesome trainers made up for it.

Instructors are excellent!

The Open Water is a very quick but personal instructor led course so dont worry too much if you're not 100% confident about the theory, you'll "get it" once you're in the water. Recommend the Advanced as well, but take a bit of time in between to relax if you're feeling tired. I had Ernie for both and he was super patient and lovely, giving you a pat on the back when you needed it and explaining what to improve.

Equipment very well maintained and guys at the shop very helpful in getting you suited snd booted. Dive sites were great and loved the bouyancy park. Watch out for jellies though!

Accommodation was a let down. Wifi wasnt working either. "Upgraded" to a bungalow only to find it infested with bedbugs but this ismanaged by a very rude lady not Big Blue. Unfortunately only other option near by was expensive Coral Grand next door, although very nice.

Food onsite were good although a bit slow to come out when busy. For dinner try going into town, go left up the road opposite the seven eleven and there's some great family run places which serve authentic Pad thai.

Great choice for beginner divers

I had my open water course at Bigblue and it was a great experience.
The instructors are all well experienced and professional, the first day we didn't leave the swimming pool until when all of us 4 was ok with all the skills we had to learn.
The dives were very nice and I found the overall atmosphere/location/dive spots amazing!
Only bad thing: I have paid about 1500 baht for an HD version of the video and still haven't received it, 1 month after the end of my open water and after many emails sent, that have been left with no reply.
Sadly disappointing. Apart from this I would recommend it!

Great experience !

To improve the service :
Smaller group (3-4 students) not 5-6
More flexibility in free accommodation (private room) instead of dorm

First time was better.

Been to Big Blue twice. And the second time wasn't as good as the first. Five masters seem to pretend they don't know the students after they finish the dive. It's like having their own club at the bar next door. No interaction at all. Anyway, had a great time again.

Friendly, cheap, fun

We did the open water + advanced and slept there. It was real fun. Our instructor, Alex, gave us good advice. The boats are great, and one has cats living onboard. Gear was ok, except swimsuits that are a bit old. Diving places are fun, but overcrowded at times. Good place to start. After the course they made a film of the final dive, not cheap, but really professional.

Great but rushed

The diving was a lot fun and the instructor Lilly and G were great. The course felt rushed for something that is potenially dangerous. It is like cramming for a test you might pass test but you don't retain anything.

It was money well spent though as the diving was fun and accomodations were nice. I will be back to do my advanced diver with them and will try to bring some friends along.

Amazing diveing

Best part was that we tried to be at the divesites before everyone else. That gave better dives even if the mornings got early.
I would like it if there was some sort of guide to what fish we could see. Even if our instructor talked about it after the dive I was always a bit tired after being on the boat so I couldnt make use of the information. If there was some sort of pamphlet or just a simple list where i could check of the fish would have been nice. Now I mainly remember the big baracuda, which was awesome but not the only amazing thing i got to see.
So basically, everything was amazing. Hope to be back soon!

Wonderful Teachers, Beautiful Ocean!

The Big Blue Diving school was amazing!
The only reason I gave the four stars is because I thought the accommodations could be improved. We were in the shared dorms and found that they were very hot and not much of the ocean breeze made it past the new building. Adding a couple more fans to these rooms would make a huge difference.
The actual course for open water and advanced were amazing. My husband and I felt so comfortable with our instructor (Steve-o). We really appreciated his balanced teaching style- humor, confidence, kindness, and knowledge. We also appreciated the fact that he took time to get to know us personally. You could truly tell he loves his job and is passionate about diving.
Thank you Big Blue for introducing us to a new beautiful part of this creation! The ocean is a beautiful place and we look forward to seeing more of it and working to protect it.
