Maldives -Emperor Serenity - an amazing anniversary trip

My wife and I spent our wedding anniversary aboard the MV Serenity and the crew made us feel so welcome. The boat was amazingly spacious and our cabin was like a hotel suite.
The diving was phenomenal and we managed to see loads of Mantas and a couple of whale sharks. I even got to swim with nurse sharks off the back of the boat. I’m sure we’ll be back.

Wonderful holiday

Stayed in chalet with air conditioning so accommodation was excellent - not a tent person so can't comment on that.
House reef was very good with zodiacs to outside of reef. Never went other dives sites as house reef was so interesting.
All staff very friendly and helpful. Diving centre very well organised. Food good with predominance of chicken but tasty. Food was not hot enough in temperature for my liking and would have been improved with a bit more chilli but perfectly adequate.
No entertainment -hurray! Would recommend to all divers.
We will definitely be going back again.

Wadi Lahami

lovely place - beautiful accommodation (I stayed in the chalets, but the tents also looked good), wonderful dive sites with superb corals, swim throughs and pools . Great food, too! Nitrox not really available as their compressor is broken, although if you insist on it it they can bring some tanks from the next village, and wifi is extortionately expensive (€5 for 2 hours - so if you can't live without internet, buy a sim card at the airport). Overally definitely recommend going there!

Excellent Week At Marssa Nakari Village from 13 to 20 September

Great diving, excellent staff, good food and great diving company. A quiet, small diving retreat, where you can get to know the divers and staff.

Best dive resort in the Red Sea

Very warm welcome from the staff, always friendly and very helpful. Excellent diving facilities, amazing house reef, unguided & unlimited diving for experienced divers. Such an abundance of fish, warm sea temperatures, which makes the diving our favourite dive resort.

Marsa Shagra - A hidden gem

I thoroughly recommend Marsa Shagra for anyone who is interested in diving. The resort is very low key, in keeping with it's eco-lodge status, very quiet and relaxed with almost no distractions from diving! I stayed in a Royal Tent, which was very spacious and comfortable, cleaned every day, and made the stay feel a bit more like an adventure. The setup for diving was perfect. There is a well organised dive prep area with your own locker and hangers for your gear with helpful and friendly staff always available. The house reef is a few meters from the prep area, fully accessible from teh shore and fully protected from any waves by the outer reef. The currents were negligible the whole week I was there. You can easily spend a week on the house reef - there is plenty to see there, with a resident turtle and visiting dolphin pods passing through. Its a beautifully healthy reef with massive fish and no signs of the 'wear and tear' that you see in most reefs near holiday sites. It's basically like diving in an aquarium - you would be hard put to find a safer, easier, nicer dive experience.

I'll definitely be back, though I might try one of the other Red Sea Dive Safari resorts next time.

Great place to relax and dive

I am an experienced instructor diving with my partner new to diving. Marsa Shagra is a great place to dive at your own pace. Liveabords are great but sometimes you feel rushed. The hospitality was excellent, food great ( surprised I did not put weight on) and finally the dive are was first class and the lads were extremely helpful

Two Weeks on Emperor Serenity - Best of the Maldives

What an awesome boat!. We were in cabin 12 (second deck), the room was so big you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in a hotel! and the second deck server as out own private balcony!. The crew were helpful and every night we were entertained by one of the dive guides (Ayya) and his guitar, although what he lacked in rhythem and tone, he more than made up for with enthusiasm!.

Food was great with lots of variety and the quality was second to none. The chef did work wonders for every meal.

The dive guides were friendly, approachable and very safety orientated, so no complaints there at all. My only 'gripe' would be that on a number of dives we jumped into the water a little too far from the dive site and had to endure quite a lengthy swim underwater before we go to the actual reef. But other than that, it was all brilliant.
Wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend this boat and itinerary to anyone.

Oh and Oonas Divers.. they rule!. Have been booking my dive holidays with them since around 2004 and they never let me down, not even once. that is one hell of a track record!. Friendly, professional and meticulous in their planning of your dive holiday, nothing is left to chance. Wouldn't even dream of ever booking through anyone else!

Excellent twin location trip

Well where do I start!! It was a fabulous trip. Aliwal Shoal first, the accommodation was good, rooms where clean and the beds where comfortable not a vast amount of space for clothes etc but we didn't take much so that was ok lol breakfast was toast, cereals, fresh fruit and yogurt (a couple of the guests did complain there were no eggs) didn't bother us. Lunch time food was simple, burgers, chips, salads and sandwiches but it was well prepared and tasty. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The diving was good, with only four of us at the resort there was plenty of room and we weren't cramped on the boat, the launches were done very professionally and safely. Our dive guide Matt was thorough in his briefings and good at spotting stuff. We met Craig and Shona who own/ run the place briefly, they seemed quite pleasant, we didn't have a lot to do with them really. We dived in the mornings and we had the afternoons to ourselves, they provided a driver Jason who was at our disposal to take us anywhere we wanted to go, a really lovely guy.
The transfer to Mozambique went smoothly, we had several stops to break the journey and arrived at the boarder after about six and half hours. Jason talked us through what to do at the boarder and that also went smoothly. We were picked up by Mike from Ponto Do Ouro and had a 20 minute cross country journey over sand dunes on the back of a truck which was great fun lol The accommodation needs a little bit of tlc but I believe that is in hand. It is very much a family atmosphere there, Mike and Leanne make you feel like part of the family, just loved Mikes sense of humour and he was an extremely competent skipper and guide, it was a very professional but above all friendly place, both Mike and Leanne went out of their way to make sure we had everything we wanted. The breakfast was the same as at Aliwal Shoal, lunch was tuna, beef or chicken wraps or rolls with salad or chips, amazingly tasty. We had two evening meals there, which were excellent, one night was steak (best I've had) and chicken the second night, all beautifully prepared and tasty, the local restaurants were good too, and very good value all within a short walking distance. The diving here was awesome from nudibranch to schools of 40 or more hammerheads, tiger, grey reef, hammerheads and bull sharks and the reef diving was amazing too, difficult to compare to Tofo because it's so different, however, I'm pretty sure Rob and I will be going back to this place again next year, going to put it to the club next week as well

Breathe in.....Breathe out......and Relax....

That's about as taxing as it got during my 7 days by the sea. A perfect retreat away from it all. Fantastic friendly staff, great food and diving all set in a very peaceful environment. Good house reefs, truck dives to local sites and a face to face with an Oceanic out on Elphinstone. I travelled alone but buddied with plenty, a perfect get away.

Wonderful staff and excellent diving

You can go in a tent (as we did - right on the beach) or up to a grand A/C apartment. The house reef is excelllent and the further reaches (by Zodiac) have excellent coral with up to 100% cover (yes, I really mean that). Dives range from 5 metres just off the shore to the reef wall which goes down to about 20metres (but I spent a lot of time at the top of the reeef which is very beautiful) to excoursions (extra cost) to such paces as Elphinstone (which goes down to hundreds of metres as a sheer wall with a platform on the north end at 40 metres from which to view the earky morning sharks and a nice 20 metre platform at the south end to which you are conveyed by a nice drift) and Dolphin reef which has some magical bommies. one of them penetrated by a maze of tunnels at 5 metres. The dive staff are excellent and both safety and environmentally conscious. The food is unlimited, of various national cuisines depending on the day and uniformly excellent and the restaurant staff, both in front and behind the counter, courteous and helpful. The whole organisation runs like clockwork. This is my third time at Marsa Shagra and Marsa Nakari is just as good. Oonas' operation in UK is also first class. Below is a boxfish, two views of a stonefish and what I think is a species of Ovula (a mollusk similar to the cowries).
