Well where do I start!! It was a fabulous trip. Aliwal Shoal first, the accommodation was good, rooms where clean and the beds where comfortable not a vast amount of space for clothes etc but we didn't take much so that was ok lol breakfast was toast, cereals, fresh fruit and yogurt (a couple of the guests did complain there were no eggs) didn't bother us. Lunch time food was simple, burgers, chips, salads and sandwiches but it was well prepared and tasty. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The diving was good, with only four of us at the resort there was plenty of room and we weren't cramped on the boat, the launches were done very professionally and safely. Our dive guide Matt was thorough in his briefings and good at spotting stuff. We met Craig and Shona who own/ run the place briefly, they seemed quite pleasant, we didn't have a lot to do with them really. We dived in the mornings and we had the afternoons to ourselves, they provided a driver Jason who was at our disposal to take us anywhere we wanted to go, a really lovely guy.
The transfer to Mozambique went smoothly, we had several stops to break the journey and arrived at the boarder after about six and half hours. Jason talked us through what to do at the boarder and that also went smoothly. We were picked up by Mike from Ponto Do Ouro and had a 20 minute cross country journey over sand dunes on the back of a truck which was great fun lol The accommodation needs a little bit of tlc but I believe that is in hand. It is very much a family atmosphere there, Mike and Leanne make you feel like part of the family, just loved Mikes sense of humour and he was an extremely competent skipper and guide, it was a very professional but above all friendly place, both Mike and Leanne went out of their way to make sure we had everything we wanted. The breakfast was the same as at Aliwal Shoal, lunch was tuna, beef or chicken wraps or rolls with salad or chips, amazingly tasty. We had two evening meals there, which were excellent, one night was steak (best I've had) and chicken the second night, all beautifully prepared and tasty, the local restaurants were good too, and very good value all within a short walking distance. The diving here was awesome from nudibranch to schools of 40 or more hammerheads, tiger, grey reef, hammerheads and bull sharks and the reef diving was amazing too, difficult to compare to Tofo because it's so different, however, I'm pretty sure Rob and I will be going back to this place again next year, going to put it to the club next week as well
