Excellent Week At Marssa Nakari Village from 13 to 20 September

Great diving, excellent staff, good food and great diving company. A quiet, small diving retreat, where you can get to know the divers and staff.

A very special place

Marsa Nakari is the most amazing and chilled dive village. Very clean with fantastic staff and fabulous food. The tents are VERY hot during the day so if you want the option of staying cool, go for the air conditioned chalet during the very hot months

peace and quiet

Nakari is an oasis of calm, with nothing much to do but admire nature and let go of the things pecking at your mind. Every evening, whilst sitting at the cafeteria, a desert fox would trot by on her rounds. Every day, the most submissive and sweetest (desert) dog in the world would wriggle up to say hello. Two or three cats with David Bowie eyes live in the roof of the tents' toilet block. One day I saw 5 ospreys and a hawk. The visit this time was greeted with some huge red moons rising over the sea, it made me think of the Romans that founded Nakari, and what they must have made of such sights. It was Winter, so the nights were cold and windy, but the days were warm, and the sea was a balmy 24 degrees. Saba and Zakria's food was as splendid as always, Muntasar's cleaning as spotless, Nabil's cake, Mohammed's organisation as quietly effective, all combining to make guests feel that they belong. Perhaps a bit of your heart always stays in Nakari. (And the diving was good too)

Nakari: A jewel in the dessert

You need to cast away your normal holiday expectations to discover the best this unspoilt Red Sea location can offer. By forgetting about your normal creature comforts (and UK safety standards) you'll be rewarded with an amazing adventure with fabulous scuba diving and personal service in this super friendly 'village'.

Waking up under canvas on the beach, just steps from the water's edge, as the rising sun peeked into our Royal Tent was beautiful. The reefs were heaving with fascinating sealife and snorkelling with over 20 wild dolphins was magical.

There were only a couple of dozen other guests of varying nationalities there when we went this November, as the lower season started, but this made it all the more special. The staff and dive guides couldn't have been nicer. I imagine in the heat of summer, all but the wildest adventurers may opt to upgrade to the chalets with aircon (and ensuite facilities) but further from the beach and dive shack.

So if you want your holiday to have all the mod cons in pristine buildings with a swimming pool and manicured gardens, surrounded by lots of Brits, DON'T GO TO NAKARI!

But if you love scuba diving and a little adventure, if you don't expect a huge and varied choice of food and drinks... if you don't mind some dodgy wiring, (your fridge not working when you haven't waggled the plug perfectly, wedging a piece of coral under the socket to charge your camera, and stepping over the bit of matting which makes your dim bedside light go out)... you're happy to sleep with the sound of lapping waves or distant shorebreak... you love to see the stars at night... then Nakari could be the place for you.

You may need to go there before the current madness in the world sends the whole of Egyptian tourism out of business.

Lovely Place, Great people = Enjoyable and relaxing week

My first trip to the Red Sea and it couldn't have been better. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The food was largly authentic egyptian and very good, with plenty of variety during the week. The diving facfilties are great and weel organised - with the house reef avaialble all day and well organised boat and truck dives everyday - weather permitting (we did have acouple af days with strong winds that limited boat diving - but hey we're dealing with the sea here!)

The whole atmosphere is very relaxed and the cafeteria provides a great place to meet other guests - and it was great to meet such a mix - Austrian, Dutch, Danish, Belgian, Swiss, Egyptian etc. As a solo traveller I had no problems meeting, mixing and feeling welcome!

I'm sure I will be back.

Hidden Gem

We went as a group of 15, all of the staff where professional and friendly especially our dive guide Sewace. the diving was excellent, the only thing that was a negative was all the rubbish in the sea, not in any way Nakari's fault though. the accommodation was comfortable and clean, between us we stayed in royal tents and air con chalet's. The food was good and tasty and for the size of the place there was always a good choice. All in all an excellent holiday and would highly recommend.

Perfect week

A last minute decision turned into a perfect week of relaxing diving, great food and friendly company. Such friendly staff who looked after us to make sure we were comfortable and had all we wanted. I loved our Royal Tent right by the waters edge. The on shore diving was fun with trips out on the zodiac or entry from the beach. Other dive trips were available to go further afield. Definitely go back again.

Peace quiet and some enjoyable diving

We chose Nakari as it is usually quiet. On this occasion we were the only guests for virtually the entire stay. The staff, especially the kitchen team were very attentive and the dive guides accommodating. We were delighted to encounter a turtle on nearly all our dives on the house reef.

We will be back...

We did a tailor made trip one week to Nakari, and one week to the lovely Roots Camp in el Qusier: this focusses on Nakari, as the option to review Roots here doesn't exist- we recommend it for a visit, though.

Our trip nearly didn't happen as one of our party of four underwent surgery the week before we went. Lydia was brilliant at putting us straight in touch with Nick at Westfield, so we could make a decision based on insurance risks etc. and then tweaking our package at the last minute to take account of our revised circumstances, including cancelling some courses. She told us the snorkelling at Nakari was superb, so there was no need to miss out on the magic if one of us could not dive.
She was right, and we had a lovely time. Kids did their advanced course under supervision of the excellent Mostafa: patient, relaxed, and very accommodating- he worked around their needs, (including delaying their deep dives by an hour when 8 dolphins came into the bay to play- lots of happy snorkellers!). The reefs were beautiful; two of us saw a guitar shark (wow!) and our non diving member found a baby white tip reef shark in a cave, who we all spent some time with.

Nakari isthe perfect place for peace and quiet- not as busy as Shagra- and keeps the focus on what Red Sea holidays should be about: diving and the sea. Long may the neon horrors and insular self-contained resorts be kept away. The staff are great - they give you your own space, without being over-attentive or absent (a risk when places are not busy). Food is plentiful and tasty, as at Shagra.

Last time we took a chalet, this time we went for Royal tents. Our tent was right on the beach, with an effective fan to keep the heat away at night. Very hot in the tent in the day, but who wants to be inside? Rather be underwater.... ! The cleanliness of the communal facilities was very good, and were a short walk away. We did notice that battery chargers got very hot when charging in the tents- we suggest charging camera batteries in the cafe where there is a breeze.
We will be back....but might have to try Lahami next!
Thanks again to Oonas for sorting us a great trip, be in touch soon.

Fantastic dive experience & perfect concept.

Only 1.5hrs from Marsa Alam airport this perfect location nestles in the desert, the smaller sister to Marsa Shagra , which offers everything you need & would want for the perfect, quiet dive holiday. The spacious Madyafa Guest house offers a shower room with soaps provided, rooms with 2 good sized beds (could be made into massive double if you wish). Tea & coffee facilities provided was a pleasant surprise. Meals served on pleasant terrace outside the restaurant, food was excellent & varied every meal with my food intolerance catered for very well. Whilst we were at Nakari some meals were waiter service rather than buffet due to the small number of clients in the resort, this probably improved our experience. Diving service and equipment was excellent and with the relaxed dive schedule of kit up decide whether to go shore or rib / North or South reef makes this an ideal holiday for those who don't like crowds or want to discover new species, practice or perfect photography or simply love relaxed diving. Don't expect comfy sun loungers as this is a divers resort, beanbags, Bedouin relax area & chairs in the divers shade area provided, but if for some reason you can't dive for the week you may be thankful of a sun lounger by the end of the week. All the staff are fantastic, attentive and friendly just adding to us wanting to return as soon as we can. The only downside is having to travel to Gatwick for the Marsa flight, the alternative being a longer Egyptian transfer from Hurgarda which is still serviced by flights from Manchester.

A perfect 'get away from it all' dive experience

Much smaller and quieter than it's Marsa Shagra big brother to the north - perfect for anyone wanting a more relaxed, laid-back and quieter diving/holiday experience. Beautiful location, amazingly friendly and helpful staff, lovely accommodation (we loved the Royal Tents located just 10 metres from the sea!) and wonderful food! The diving was stress-free, well organised and professionally guided. Loved the House Reef - but the local rib and truck excursions to local areas revealed some wonderful dives and a huge variety of undersea life, from sharks to turtles to the elusive Red Sea Walkman. The flight into Hurghada and the accompanying 4+ hour drive south isn't much fun - but this is offset if you stay for an extended period or catch the alternative Wednesday flight into Marsa Alam (much closer to Nakari!). All-in-all, a wonderful 2 weeks ... and though we loved our time at Marsa Shagra a couple of years ago, we would rate Marsa Nakari as a better option all round for a quieter and much more chilled diving escape!

Excellent Chilled Out Week

Marsa Nakari village is a unique place. Everything is very laid back and the staff are very welcoming - nothing is too much trouble. The dive sites we visited were varied and the reefs were in excellent condition offering a wealth of marine life. The dive guides were very professional and friendly. We mainly dived with Mustafa who was always enthusiastic and fun to be with both in and out of the water. The house reef diving was easy to navigate unaccompanied and was full of life. The food was of an excellent standard and plentiful. We stayed in a deluxe chalet which was very comfortable and kept clean. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.,

Gert Lush!

I travelled to Marsa Nakari with Oonas 18th-25th March and was so pleased I chose them for my first ever holiday on my own. Talking to Lydia before I went put me at ease with all the details and arrangements and the transfer to Nakari was very smooth. The staff at the village were so lovely and nothing was too much trouble. I didn't go to lunch one day (I was feeling lazy!) and Chef found me and brought me plate of fruit as he was worried I would be hungry, little things like that make a weeks holiday so special and unforgettable. The diving was great, especially as my dive guide was Moosh, the food was delicious (and plentiful) and the icing on the cake was Hammed the magic massage man. Sadly he turned down my proposal to be my Egyptian husband but he's offered to teach my English husband how to massage instead! I will not hesitate to return to Nakari and can heartily recommend it and Oonasdivers to anyone looking for a totally chilled out location with great diving, superb friendly staff and the feeling of being in a wonderful bubble away from the everyday pressures of normal life.

Perfect

Nakari is a beautiful retreat. The staff are amazing and New Year celebrations were made particularly great by a hysterical round of musical chairs where everyone joined in. The reef is very special, it is rich with diversity and very healthy. Diving, snorkelling or resting you will be happy. Zacharia's food is delicious and the stars at night explode in your mind. My holiday was made particularly special by Cake Cat, who lives by the outdoor cafe, and snuggles up with you to eat your cake every afternoon. Very adorable. Thank you to Sewace for the kind loan of the wetsuit and to Hani and Khaled for the diving experience. Housekeeping and reception were also very kind and helpful. I had a slight problem with the shower and the engineer fixed it within 30 minutes. You dont get care like this in big hotels. Go to Nakari!! Oonasdivers will create your perfect holiday, and I'm fussy. Recommend.

Excellent service, very helpful and accommodating

I dealt with Sharmin at Oonas who was excellent in helping me organise a slightly different trip than advertised. She was also extremely attentive when a home situation meant that I might have to abort the trip half way through (thankfully I didn't have to).
I spent 5 days at Marsa Lahami and 5 days at Marsa Nakari, both were great locations, though different. The diving at Lahami is fantastic. I would love to go back but if I did I would go with a friend. As a solo diver as its very remote and though I love quiet and remote places usually, at the time I went there was limited choice of company and it would have been nice to have a conversation occasionally. Marsa Nakari was easier to meet people with a few more divers and staff were more chatty, though still feels like a very tranquil place to be and great diving. Would happily go there on my own again.
Would certainly use Oonas again and would love to go back to either location if I get the chance. Very happy. Thanks very much

Great diving, relaxed village

Marsa Nakari is a great dive village with friendly and helpful staff. The chalet was great and the food plentiful.

Diving was superb although as the village was not full it was not always easy to book the speed boat or large boat dives to specific sites read about on the web as there were not enough people. However the house reef is great so it didn't feel like we had missed out.

Would definitely recommend

Such nice people!

All the staff were excellent, from the dive guides right down to the cleaning staff. The diving is easy, ideally suited to my newly qualified grandson and, had I needed help with him, it would have been forthcoming. The reef is not the best in the Red Sea (Marsa Shagra is better) but an excellent introduction to Red Sea diving. I have dived before with Oonas Divers and will certainly do so again. Their organisation is first rate and the staff friendly and helpful.

Gorgeous getaway

We stayed for two weeks at Nakari, as relative newbies to diving we did our Advanced Open Water, had some excellent diving experiences and some much needed rest and recovery.
The process of booking through Oonas was very efficient and helpful. Nakari was quiet and low key, just as we had hoped for. The dive guides and instructors were excellent at made us feel very much at home. All staff were friendly and helpful. A very special thanks to Sewace, Mustafa & Nasser for going the extra mile!

We had a great time at Marsa Nakari

The people were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The food was good and plentiful. We saw turtles, eagle rays and more at the centre? Being able to go out on the zodiac (rib) was great as you were able to go out further to explore the reef. Went on one of the trips and saw turtles, guitar sharks, various rays, velvet fish and Devil fish great for the photographers in the group. Some even got to swim with dolphins at Dolphin House reef which made their trip! The air conditioned rooms were great but some were in tents which did not even have a fan!! Not good in the heat! Overall I would highly recommend Marsa Nakari.

Hi Gillian, and thank you for your review. Sounds like you had some fab sightings during your week. Tents, yes they can become rather hot during the day, the Royal Tents are equipt with fans, but not yet the standard tents, we will certianly pass this feedback on, and see what can be done. - Lydia

Highly recommend

His is the second time I have been to Marsa Nakari through Oonasdivers and have received the same exceptional service prior to travel and one at the Scuba Village you are warmly greeted by the Staff who are all friendly and speak good English along with other languages. I have stayed in both the normal tents and the royal tents which even in 40 degrees are cool enough, the staff will do everything they can to ensure you have a great holiday. It is very relaxed whilst allowing you to dive as much as you want. I did my advanced open water on my first trip and have to say they are very patient and excellent instructors. The house reef is beautiful and with the daily option to go out on truck dives or boat trips there is always access to stunning reefs. Hiring equipment is quick and easy. It is a very personal service you get hear compared to Marsa Shagra which is also beautiful but a lot busier. If you are someone who likes diving and wants a pure diving holiday I highly recommend this village. However, if you want to do a few dives and spend the rest if the time in the sun this place would also be brilliant for you. The food is varied but very nice I recommend trying the houmous. I will definitely be going back again soon. And encourage anyone who enjoys diving to give this place a chance you will not regret it.

I went alone and quickly found someone in the same position who became my buddy.

I would recommend getting the additional 10 guided dives package as it covers the majority of the truck dives and is great value for money.

I can't fault this place
