This was my 1st scuba experience and it was thrilling

The team at temple adventures were kind enough to include us on a scuba trip even on a last minute notice. The team made sure we had enough idea about suba diving before the training began. They were really friendly and professional at the same time. Pool training was exhausting so that we were ready for the real dive. The temple adventures team had put together a beautiful artificial reef just off the cost of Pondicherry and the dive was literally breathtaking. Will definitely go again.

A dive to remember !!!

My wife and daughter (both good swimmers in swimming pool) forced me to take a plunge in deep sea....I was bit skeptical about the whole thing as I have a fear of depth !!! But after reaching Pondi and Temple Adventure and meeting the instructors I was at ease more than my family !
After my wife I dived my daughter let me take a plunge....and to my luck it was Rob (Chief Diver) who took me to the wonder world of deep sea....we saw so many fishes and had gone done 12 m (which is max a non certified diver can go in deep sea)...we were in sea for almost 20 to 30 minutes ( I lost count,,,and had never a problem in breathing thru the apparatus )...It was marvelous experience.
My wife and daughter happens to dive with Danny's (and they are referred as White Danny and Black Danny)... :)... they too had a marvelous time ...Since my daughter could not go deep and could not be photographed...Danny took her again down and click lots of snaps and took a video too....things we will really cherish for a long time to come.
My review will be incomplete if I dont mention the first day tank dive instruction session done by Iyenar (they call him INR) and the office staff who were equally supportive !
Three cheers to Rob and his whole team....Keep the good work on and energy level high as usual ....Thank you guys

Is was indeed an amazing experience underwater. The pre-dive training and care (, breakfast precautionary tablet, snacks) taken by Temple Adventures is definitely noteworthy. I thank the entire team!

Scuba diving is more fun with Temple Adventures

Ever since I first dived with Temple Adventures, the fun has never really stopped. Be it above the sea or below it, you can always count on them to make the day an awesome one for you. With the recent dive to 50m on a site which was never visited by anyone, (they even let us choose the name of the site), I feel more connected to the place.

With a wide range of dive sites all around the eastern coast, from beautiful artificial reefs to diving under the pier, and from quarries to the continental shelf of mainland India, you can have a feel for any type of diving you want to do.

What can I say about Temple? I mean it, really, what am I allowed to say? Is this a family friendly site or are people OK with the truth? Reading through the reviews, I should probably keep this to PG rated. That's unfortunately, since that means I can't talk about the REDACTED or about how much fun it was to REDACTED. I definitely can't talk about REDACTED because I'm sure that would get someone into trouble.

I can say that I would definitely dive with this crew again. I came for a weekend trip a few months back and I returned four or five more times (working in Chennai for 3 mo). I got to be part of discovering two new sites (it's Cabbage Patch, Jonah, deal with it) and learned more in the last twenty dives than I have since my open water. Not only am I a better diver now, I know a lot more about what it means to work at a dive shop (someday you'll get that "real job" Julian... but maybe after you finally get your REDACTED fixed).

It's been a truly great experience and any time I'm in India, I'll be stopping in again. If any of the crew makes it state side, hopefully they'll let me know (even you, Akhil... or especially you...).

Go Scuby dooby doo!!!

From fear to excitement, it was a switch of gear for sure! Wonderfully organised , great team, sufficient equipments, they have it all.. Me and my husband dived with Temple Adv 18-19th Apr as a part of DSD Program (Discover Scuba Diving). Its a special program designed especially for the amateurs and non-swimmers, basically the kind of people who love to have a taste of variety cuisine! A briefing and pool session is to help you simulate to the actual dive! With a team of expert divers, instructors and rescuers, they make you friends with the life under water. A must visit I say, I have already been spreading the word in my circle. Its a whole new world to be explored , and it just gets better with TA. PS: Take sea sickness precautions or else the whole experience wud turn into a nightmare.

Amazing fun

I just finished my Emergency First Response and Rescue Diver course with Temple Adventures and I got to say it was awesome. I had the best time learning new skills and how to become a better diver. The entire team was not only professional in their approach to teaching, but made the learning and the exercises great fun.
The team is a big family and welcomed me with open arms. I actually had a hard time leaving the dive centre and go back to reality.
The diving was beautiful. We had a 30 m visibility in crystal clear water at Aravinds Wall and super cool fish life. Big fish as well as macro sea life. Then we went to the Temple Reef, an artificially created reef, which was loaded with schools of all kinds of fish, many large gropers and tiny beautiful nudi branches.

I recommend Temple Adventures to everyone interested in a fun activity!

All round fun

Diving is bliss. The crew at Temple Adventures makes it super fun too. I was lucky to have Rob, Jonah and Julien as my instructors. They made learning fun. I would know, I am an instructor myself though not as experienced as most of the staff at temple Adventures. Each day was a new adventure. The office staff is extremely polite and very well informed, they make life a lot easier too. Thank you Sheela, Sooshma, Jenny, Luke and Samuel. Ravi, the Captain of the boat assigned to us was a thorough seaman and extremely professional. I mist make a mention of the Tec Team of Rob Scammel, Jonas Samuelsson and my fellow student divers Donarun Das(who by the way also does a great job with the media at Temple) and Niko Perosa. The overall experience at Temple Adventures was awesome. The sheer professionalism and absolute passion displayed by everyone makes them a great team and someone i would not hesitate recommending and of course they have a repeat customer in me. Cheers

Not enough training for people who doesn't know swimming

I sincerely appreciate the effort of Temple Adventures for bringing Scuba in pondy. I think it would be a fantastic experience for some of the people but not for all. I doesn't know swimming and i have never ever been into any kind of pool. Scuba diving is a big leap step for me. But I trusted the pre-training and safety procedure. I got disappointed with the pre-training. Training in a small tank before scuba diving, is that enough for all? Not enough equipment ( i don't know about other course, but i paid around 6k). If you are going to provide first-time scuba diving experience for non-swimmers, please please provide adequate training and all equipment not just basic one's.

Thanks for the review Rajthilak. It is great to get feedback to help us improve our services, and thus we thank you for your time spent to write this. And also terrific you saw the efforts associated with setting up a dive centre in a new and unexplored area such as Pondicherry. It is a shame, however, and we regret that you felt the pre-training was inadequate. We always strive to provide as much education as possible for the students/divers. Actually, the program we run, which is called a DSD or Discover Scuba Diving, is designed by PADI, (http://www.padi.com/scuba/), approved by WRSTC (http://www.wrstc.com/), then implemented in all regards and standards by our instructors. We don't take divers who have not satisfactorily completed the pre-training into the sea - It is part of our great focus on safety, which is common in many other customer reviews shown on this website if you have a chance to read some. We hope in the future you get another opportunity to try the wonderful world of scuba diving, and are able to come and join us again in the amazing ocean :)

Was disappointed with my dive

I was really happy the first day when Arvind came and helped us in pool to get familiar with equipements and had very high hopes. But next day Arvind was out of town and my dive was with someone else.I dont remember the guy's name now. He alone took myself and my brother togather. My brother felt dizzy and he came out immediately as it was too conjusted for three of us to cling on the rope togather. I was very comfortable to go deeper but I was not taken more than 6-7 feets.. I was not even shown reeves. Aravind had told me the first day if I am comfortable he could take me deeper. They said clarity was very good that day but they had no attention towards the first divers. Basically I was shown nothing. I just felt tat i went underwater and came back. I felt it was wastage of my money.

Thanks for your review Rakesh. We are very sorry to hear you had a lacking experience, and hope to learn from this to improve our services for the future. We see that you were comfortable, but your buddy didnt feel good, which meant the dive was cut short. In the future we will aim to make it possible to split the groups up and have one buddy per instructor, so all divers have distance between them, and a chance to continue to see the great underwater sites and reefs of Pondicherry. Please feel free to contact us at dive@templeadventures.com to discuss your dive and see how best to go about getting you back into another exciting deep sea adventure soon. Many thanks. An honest account of my experiences with Temple Adventures

I have visited Temple Adventures only twice so please keep that in mind while reading this review.

The first time was in June, 2013. I had done an Open Water Course with three friends of mine. This was my first attempt at diving. The experience was amazing! Left me speechless. So what made Temple Adventures so good? I came to learn scuba diving. To learn effectively you need good teachers. Trust me, the instructors over there are excellent. They ensured that I completed everything properly in a smiling and patient manner. My instructors were Aravind and Akhil. They created a rich and lively atmosphere. During each of the dives in the ocean, we saw at least 10 different varieties of fish. Visibility varied with each dive (max 15-20 m). Being open water divers, we were not allowed to go to the more exciting deep sites! (I will go one day). The divers with temple adventures are always so enthusiastic and happy that it just infects you instantly making your dive experience all the more better! Rob (great guy, fun to dive with!) and Jonah (who mysteriously got me to overcome my sea sickness) accompanied us on a couple of our dives.

I was so impressed with them, that I gathered 10 of my friends (now thats a pretty large group) and convinced them to join me for my next dive in Pondy. They all did the Discover Scuba Diving Course while I did my fun dive. Most unfortunately, diving in the sea was called off owing to rough weather (Jan 4th, 2014). We were left with no choice (since all 10 couldn't come back another time) but to choose their Quarry site for diving. My friends were disappointed but after diving, they did enjoy themselves. A few of my friends want to go back and do the open water course (evidently, they were jealous that I got to do the fun dives and at greater depths!). For certified divers, I would most certainly not recommend the Quarry Dive Site. We were told that we would see some turtles, and were greatly disappointed when we didn't see even one. All we saw were some kind of small fish.

Since I have seen only a few of their dive sites, it would not be appropriate for me to comment on them. Though I have heard a lot of positive comments on Aravind's Wall (30 m). When it comes to learning how to scuba dive, I would give them 10 out of 10. To me thats what matters.

So what's the verdict? Possibly one of the best places to begin scuba diving! And yes, I would recommend dives in the ocean to my friends. :)

Mixed feelings about the scuba diving adventure

Our team was comfortable in reaching to temple adventure right from contacting them regarding booking our slot till we left (after the scuba adventure) the temple adventures office.

Theory explained regarding the scuba diving especially regarding the pressure conditions in deep sea were awesome. But I was a bit disappointed with the practice session of the same. There was a swimming pool size practice pool was in mind, but it as about 3 foot height and 5 foot deep. I believe this pool size and hygiene conditions can be greatly improved.

The transport to the deep sea (18meters deep) is good. The friendly nature of the diving masters who have assisted us to go deep into the sea was great. But I'm a bit disappointed by the quality of the water even though I'm not sure if the water quality can be any better in the surroundings of pondicherry.

We were a group of 7 people and all of us have opted for taking a photo (by paying expensive 500 rupees per person) inside the deep sea. But the photos were issued with a confidence that the deep sea pictures of the all of us were copied to the pendrive we gave (there was no consulting any of us before issuing the photos is done with any of us). Very unprofessionally the photos of 2 of us were missing in the folder copied by Temple Adventures.

It wasn't the end of my bad experience with Temple Adventures. I have raised my concern for my photos in the deep sea (along with my body description and attaching one of my recent photo). Very poor response has been received from Temple Adventures after continually bugging them to respond. And the disappointing and distressful response is that they could go back a couple of days in the photo database and couldn't retrieve my photo. And finally there was no more final response from them.

Therefore I would not recommend Temple Adventures for scuba diving to a friend.

If you're looking at diving in India, look no further

I first chanced upon TA whilst searching for diving schools in the southern part of India. The fact that they're in Pondicherry, a quaint town where time takes a break, was an added plus. Rob, Aravind and the team at TA make you feel at home from the word 'water'. The school is run very professionally - with a personal touch that can come only when you're truly passionate about diving and meeting new and diverse people. I've taken family and friends there, and some of them have gone on to get certified as well. I've also made some good friends and excellent memories during each of my (few) trips to TA. More power to the good folks there.

“A Good Dive Operator”

Scuba was a good experience all around. At the shop, the staff were quick, efficient and pleasant. They use good equipment, the best dive boat made. The conditions were difficult due to high wind, but the instructors were helpful and informative about how to enter the water and exit in high swells. They were very attentive to those who felt seasick, and moved to a sheltered location so that everyone could enjoy the second dive in protected waters. En route, they dropped off the more experienced divers so they could swim in, and spend more time swimming over reefs and seeking sea critters. And on top of that, they were a lot of fun. If they were this good when conditions were difficult, they must be fantastic when conditions are pristine.

Everyone at TA really has fun diving.. and it's infectious!!

the viz, the waves, the current - all are variable... what's a constant is the fun I have with the team and by extension the other divers.. that's what pulls me back to TA time after time..

Great bunch of people

Did my Rescue + EFR with these guys, and the training was intense ! The instructor is an old school tough guy, and he really believes in making sure you know what you are doing, whether administering CPR ("if you're not breakin' bones, you're not doin' it right !") or how to help a panicked diver ("punch him if you have to").

Also a lot of fun after the serious stuff is over. They have some great dive sites down there, specially The Wall, that one could dive maybe 20 times. They are a full service facility for Scubapro as well, which was handy for a compass strap I needed.

All in all, given the constraints they operate in, a stellar dive operation.

Nice People, Great Experience !

Every dive in pondicherry is an adventure. Its not blessed with the best of sites. But the thrill u get diving in the challenging sandy shallows or sometimes spooky deep or sometimes surrounded by thousands of marine lives in the color void depths is incomparable. These guys sweat under water to make sites & artificial refs that attract fishes! :D While the rest of the world is busy destroying what they have :P

I really like the way they make everyone participate in packing their gear, transporting them and cleaning them eventually.

Have fun diving with Rob & Arvind!

Discover scuba in pondicherry

Great Temple Adventures put Scuba diving on the map of Pondicherry !

The course is laid back and good with friendly, capable instructors. The pool work was done pretty far away , it s hoped that they find a pool to work in close by.

The open water dives are off the coast of pondicherry to one of their dive sites , if the sea is too rough they l use the granite mines

At this instant the sea was rough and my old medical problem (a head injury) played up and i had to abort my open water dives, so i could not finish my PADI

I successfully completed the written test and the first 2 days .

Kindly enough Temple Bay gave me a paper as proof that i did so.

With this i was able to do some dives this summer in Micronesia (calm lagoons and amazing WW II wrecks that become amazing artificial reefs)

I still need a dive with their dive master to complete my padi, which i hope to do this spring !

For me a 4 star ! Lisbeth Nusselein

Need better organization

My friend and i had joined them for their basic tandem scuba - half day in the pool and half day doing 1 assisted dive. I think there were a lot of issues with the overall planning:-

1. We were told we dont need much time in the pool and hence on 1 day itself about 15min before we were to leave for scuba, we were just taken into the pool for a quick lesson. I didnt get time to acclimatize and this didnt seem to matter at all.

2. We repeatedly asked them for a plan and what all to get but they kept reassuring us that everything will be provided and taken care of. For women divers - there isnt really any proper facility to change. Just a bunch of guys living in a house and you can use one of their rooms\bathrooms to change back.

3. This wasnt a half day dive as promised this was a full day boat ride around where mutliple people had to dive at different spots. I was terribly sea sick and requested to be taken back after 2 such sites, but they just ignored. We finally got back at 5pm (started at 7am, we were told it will be 3-4hrs).

4. No provision of proper food\water\ bathrooms\timings anywhere. Now i am fine with these things, but they should inform what they are providing so we can make our own arrangements.

Perhaps if you do a full course with them they will take more interest, but if you're going for a 1 day trial - open sea dive option that they have, this is a bad idea. I went for it because i wanted to try out scuba before committing to it as an activity and going for their course.

Fantastic! Friendly! Fabulous

Diving has always been on my bucket list, but the fact that my wife was apprehensive about deep waters was pushing us to put it off! Once she made up her mind we narrowed on temple adventures and am sure glad we did!! Right from when we spoke to them till when we finished it was one of THE most exhilarating, fantastic, fulfilling and fun filled activity!! My wife and I, who are not expert swimmers and my young son finished the course!

Julien who started off as our instructed, ended as our friend!! He really saw us through the entire process!! Hats off to him!! I think the group deserves ANOTHER 5 stars for julien!!

Rob AND the cool food served at their place is also worthy of a very good mention!!

All in all...a rocking time! You have converted this family as divers for life!

temple adventures - great experience

It has been dream for south indians, the people of Tamil Nadu state to think about scuba diving, although we have 1200 km coastal area. Temple Adventures has given an opportunity to explore our own coast for the first time to several people in south india. I and my collegue are one of such people, who have done our scuba dive at Pondicherry.

I greatly appreciate Mr. Aravind and Mr. Rob for their dedicative effort in organizing and very friendly staff team.
